LA rebates & incentives for backup power
Programs change often. Confirm everything on the official pages linked below before you buy. Last reviewed: October 2026.
SGIP (Self-Generation Incentive Program)
California's CPUC-run program offers incentives for battery storage to customers of SCE, PG&E, SDG&E and SoCalGas. Separate budgets (including equity budgets for eligible customers; budget sizes and openings change, so check the CPUC for current figures) target eligible lower-income and vulnerable customers. Budgets open and close and some have waitlists, so check current status. Sources: CPUC SGIP, selfgenca.com (current budget status).
LADWP customers: LADWP is municipal and is not part of SGIP. LADWP may offer its own rebates or programs at times; we have not verified any current amounts, so check ladwp.com.
Federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D)
The 30% credit for home solar and battery storage (3 kWh+) covered property installed 2022 through December 31, 2025. Per the IRS, it is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Verify your situation with a tax professional and see IRS: Residential Clean Energy Credit.
Utility & medical programs
SCE's Critical Care Backup Battery program provides a free portable battery (plus solar panel kit) to customers in high fire risk areas who are enrolled in the Medical Baseline Allowance program and use electrically powered medical equipment. It is first-come, first-served while funding lasts. SCE has offered rebates on some portable power stations and generators for customers in PSPS-affected areas via SCE Marketplace; availability, eligible products and amounts (including any enhanced rebates for CARE, FERA or Medical Baseline customers) vary and we have not verified current figures, so confirm there before buying.
Portable power stations generally do not qualify for SGIP, but may qualify for an SCE Marketplace rebate if one is currently offered.
